Westwood Village Smiles is happy to welcome new patients, including UCLA staff and students. We always make dental visits comfortable and reassuring. Whether you are here for a routine check-up or a specific treatment, you can expect exceptional care from Dr. Jose Omar Guillen and the team. We put our patients first in everything we do and never compromise on your care, comfort, and overall experience.
What to expect during your treatment
A first-time experience can feel nerve-wracking, and dental visits are no different. However, we go the extra mile to ensure your first dental appointment is comfortable and stress-free. We’ll guide you with warmth and care from the moment you step through our doors. The overall experience is seamless; you’ll be glad you are part of our family.
Here’s what you can expect during your visit.
- Medical and dental history: We take the time to get to know you by discussing your lifestyle, medical history, and dental background. Please share any allergies, current medical conditions, or dental concerns. If you experience dental anxiety, let us know—we want every patient to feel relaxed and at ease in our office.
- Comprehensive exam: Our dental exams are thorough and usually take 60-90 minutes. We’ll screen your teeth and gums for signs of decay, cavities, faulty dental work, and other issues. We’ll also administer a painless oral cancer screening to detect lesions, bumps, patches, sores, and pre-cancerous and cancerous signs. Your exam also includes inspecting your jaw joints and surrounding structures for signs of TMJ pain and other disorders.
- Dental X-rays: If you have dental X-rays taken in the past six months, please bring them with you. We’ll still take X-rays for our records. Modern radiographs generate high-quality photos of your teeth and jaws, which are vital in detecting bone loss, ingrown teeth, development issues, and other hidden issues.
- Treatment planning: We’ll discuss your exam findings and devise a treatment plan to restore optimal oral health. Whether you have periodontal disease, damaged teeth, or tooth loss, you can trust our team to restore your smile.
- Dental cleaning: Dental cleaning will likely be part of your treatment plan, especially if this hasn’t been done for the last six months. Our dental hygienist will professionally clean your teeth to remove surface stains, plaque, tartar, and other unhealthy deposits. Although brushing and flossing your teeth are vital, they can’t reach all the surfaces of your mouth. Our dental cleanings target those hard-to-reach spots, ensuring your teeth are thoroughly cleaned and healthy.
Our office makes dental care accessible to everyone by simplifying payment. We accept insurance from numerous providers, including UC SHIP for students. Our friendly team always helps with insurance paperwork to ensure you get the most out of your coverage. We also accept CareCredit financing, an affordable solution to manage dental care without worrying about lump sum payments. Applying for CareCredit financing is simple, and the approval takes minutes.
