Most general dental procedures including routine cleanings, exams, and fillings are covered under basic dental insurance. In order for some more extensive procedures to be covered (such as wisdom tooth removal and oral surgery) additional conditions may have to be met. Some cosmetic procedures may not be covered at all.

For example, extraction of multiple wisdom teeth is often covered as a surgical procedure if those teeth are impacted or are growing abnormally (such as into the jawbone).
